Lowering TDS Levels In Your Pool
If you own a residential or commercial swimming pool in the Grants Pass, Oregon area, you are going to have to deal with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). TDS is best described by, “the total amount of mobile charged ions, including minerals, salts or metals dissolved in a given volume of water, expressed in units of mg per unit volume of water (mg/L), also referred to as parts per million (ppm).” In the swimming pool industry, TDS is directly related to the quality and purity of water and usually is a number that is referred to when it’s time to change out the existing water in your swimming pool. Between TDS, Cyanuric Acid (CYA), and Calcium Hardness, they are the most common reasons in the pool industry as to why changing out the water would be suggested. Dissolved solids come from organic sources such as leaves and silt, it can also come from fertilizers and pesticides too. Dissolved solids also come from inorganic materials such as rocks and air that may contain calcium bicarbonate. But, the most commonplace that these dissolved solids come from is our water.
As water evaporates, calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals, as well as salts, remain in solution, gradually build up in concentration, and slowly destroy the interior finish of the swimming pool but can also make it harder to handle the water chemistry as well. The general rule of thumb is to change out the water every couple of years. If you take a water sample into a pool store they will usually recommend changing out your water when TDS levels climb above 3,000 ppm.
Total Dissolved Solids and Swimming Pools
TDS is a widely used number in the swimming pool industry and their levels get high a water change is recommended. When it comes time to change out the water in your swimming pool we recommend using the ‘Puripool Process” which is a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Mobile Filtration system that comes to your home or commercial property and recycles the existing water in the swimming pool. This prevents the need to drain your pool which is dangerous and can typically be done in less than a day. Not to mention our mobile filtration technology will leave you with better water than you’d get out of the tap.
Our mobile filtration trailers are equipped with high-pressure RO membranes that can lower TDS and other hardness minerals while conserving up to 85% of the water in the swimming pool. In addition to TDS, Reverse Osmosis will also lower Calcium Hardness, CYA, phosphates, nitrates, and waterborne diseases. After completion of the filtration, you will be left with the BEST water to swim in!
